| Pregnancy Workout |
| I borrowed a pregnancy workout video from our local public library. It is a really corny 80's video but it is so much fun and it really makes me feel like I have more energy. My 10 month old likes to dance to the music and watch mommy "dancing". I will need to look around at some thrift stores and see if I can find a pregnancy workout video. I would like to keep this up. |

| Disney World |
My first real vacation was going to Scotland when I was a baby but my first vacation that I remember is going to Disney World in Orlando Florida when I was 8 years old. I remember how much fun it was going on the rides, seeing my favorite disney characters and also going to sea world.
I found this site about Property in Davenport which is 30 minutes away from Orlando and I was surprised to find that houses are about the same price as houses in my hometown of Surrey, BC. I thought houses in that area of florida would be a lot more expensive. |

| What Kind Of Poll Is This? |
| This has got to be one of the dumbest polls I have seen. It is a poll being conducted by MSNBC on whether President Bush should be impeached. The first choice of an answer is "Yes, between the secret spying, the deceptions leading to war and more, there is plenty to justify putting him on trial." What kind of question is that? Maybe MSNBC should be put on trial for spreading lies about the war. |

| Savings Accounts |
When my husband and I first got married we opened up a bank account with Wells Fargo but soon realized how worthless it was to have a savings account there as their interest rate was less 0.75%. We looked into other banks in the area and found that Zions bank had an interest rate at 2%. We then moved our bank account there, where by the way the customer service is a whole lot better. Last year we learned about ING, an online savings account and their 4.5% Savings rate so now our savings are there and our checking is still with Zions Bank. If we end up moving outside of Idaho and Utah we will need to find a different bank or credit union.
Here is a great site that lists high yield savings accounts. You're lucky if you get a 2% interest rate with your local bank or credit union, find an online savings account that can give you over 5% interest on your savings and let your money work for you! |

| Passage To Zarahemla |
I was just reading on the Motley Vision blog about a new movie in the works called "Passage To Zarahemla". It is a movie based on the "Tennis Shoes Amoung The Nephites Series" by Chris Heimerdinger. I just love these books. I have read the first three and now waiting for the fourth book to be available at the library, I am the 4th in line right now.
The Tennis Shoes Amoung the Nephites series are fantasy books based on events from the Book Of Mormon . Some of the characters and events are fictional but it has helped to make the Book Of Mormon more exciting for me. |

| Online Encyclopedia |
With this advancement in internet technology that we have today there are fewer people with bulky heavy encyclopedia's on their bookshelves.
One such site is encyclocentral.com
For example you can learn about popcorn machines (I love popcorn!). encyclocentral.com tells us where popcorn machines are most likely found and the different types of popcorn. I think adding some detail about the history of popcorn machines and other topics on this site would make this site more interesting and useful.
Some other random topics you can learn about include Life Insurance, frozen foods, and footwear. |

Last night my husband and I watched Appollo 13. Which is about the astronauts in the 70's who went on a mission to the moon. While I think it would be so cool to see outer space and the planets, I would be terrified to actually get on a space ship and go to outer space.
I would love to look through a telescope and get an up close view of the moon, stars and some planets. You can buy many different models and types of telescopes online at Optics Planet for discounted prices. Some telescopes can be delivered to you for free!
Other things sold at Optics Planet include wiley x goggles, prescription sunglasses and Nikon rifle scopes. |

Canada usually always gets the gold in the Junior World Championships but the Salt Lake Olympics was Canada's first time getting the gold medal in 50 years! You can imagine the excitement across canada when they won that final game.

| Car Classifides |
As soon as you drive a new car out of the car lot the value of the car depreciates and continues to keep depreciating over the years. So if you are in the market to buy a car it will be a lot cheaper to buy a used car. My dad likes to go to auctions to buy cars. He got his SUV at an auction in Arizona and recently my mom's car at an auction in British Columbia.
I just did a Car Search at Lemonfree car classifides for used Honda's in my area (My husband thinks Honda's are the best cars. One came up, A 2000 Honda Civic for $8,000 which is a really good price. Lemonfree returns searches with the location, price, mileage, crash test results and much more. You can also ask the seller questions.
This post is brought to you by Lemonfree. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

| Get $5 In Free Calls |
With our cell phone plan we can call anywhere in the USA without having to pay long distance charges. However, I am from Canada and the rates to call them is very expensive. Fortunately my parents and my twin sister who is going to the University of Alberta both have a calling plan that allows them to call anywhere in the US or Canada for free. My parents also have discounted rates to Britain, my mom is from Scotland.
Sometimes I need to call my parents. Such as when our baby was born. We got a calling card but using a 2 hour land line calling card on a cell phone only gives you about 15 minutes. Next time I am going to get a calling card I am going to go with Pingo, you can save up to 90% on international cell phone calls!
Here are some rate examples from the United States:
Canada calling cards 1.8 Cents per Minute Colombia calling cards 3.8 Cents per minute United Kingdom calling cards 1.8 Cents per minute
If you sign up now you will recieve $5 in free long distance calls from Pingo!

Katherine Crouch will be representing Idaho in the Miss America Pageant tomorrow and she happens to be the daughter of the doctor who delivered my daughter, Sariah.
Katherine doesn't seem to be the typical girl going into the Miss America Pageant. She seems very down to earth and passionate about the platform she is running on. Which is Drug Awareness. Her parents were skeptical about Katherine performing in these pageants until they witnessed the influence she was having on many young people all across Idaho.

| Most Popular Phones Of 2006 |
Wirefly announces the Top 10 cell phones of 2006. The compilation of the top 10 list was based on customer orders.
The top 10 cell phones of 2006 are:
1. Cingular Wireless RAZR by Motorola (in various colors) 2. T-Mobile RAZR (in various colors) 3. Verizon Wireless RAZR (in various colors) 4. Cingular Sony Ericsson z520a/z525a video phones 5. T-Mobile Motorola v360 6. Verizon Wireless Motorola v276 7. Sprint Nextel Motorola i850 8. Sprint Nextel Motorola i710 9. Cingular Motorola v220 10. T-Mobile Samsung T309
If I had to use one of these phones I would choose one of the T-mobile phones. I looked at a lot of different cell phone plans before choosing one and T-mobile had by far the best value. I would probably try the Motorola phone because I have a samsung right now and it cuts off sometimes when I'm talking on it. |

| Starting Belisi |
If you have ever dreamed of starting a company reading stories about how people started their companies can inspire you to get started.
Here is the story of Belisi - How it Started
First of all if you don't know what Belisi is, it is a company that specializes in fashion. They sell items such as neckties and hand bags.
Belisi was started by Peter Belisi from Palm Beach. He was struggling to support his wife and newborn baby and had no savings. So he decided to start a business so he could do something he enjoyed and provide for his family. I wanted to start a business; to do something I enjoy and provide a better life for my family.
Peter soon began to notice that he was often commented on his "eye for fashion". This gave him the idea to sell luxury fashion accessories at more affordable prices.
Peter Belisi is a very chariatible person. A portion of each sale will to a cause of the customers choice.
Belisi's story is such a wonderful example of a success story. It can help inspire all of us to accomplish our goals and dreams.

| Nursing in Public |
I just read an interesting article on Canada.com about a call for the Toronto board of health to "guarantee a mother's right to breast-feed anytime, anywhere." I already thought that this was well accepted now. What mother wants to nurse her baby in a bathroom? I always make sure that I am covered up but when my baby's hungry I try to feed her as soon as possible whether I'm in walmart, the library or at a restaurant. At church I will go into the mothers room or if there is one available in other places. When my baby was first born I would always use the mothers chair in the bathroom but she would get frightened everytime the toilet flushed so I stopped doing that.
For those mothers who choose not to cover up while nursing, let them. Some babies do not like to be covered up. Women can walk around scantily clad, showing pretty much everything but when a woman feeds her baby in public she is asked to go feed the baby in the bathroom? I don't think that's right.
Here is an interesting statistic, I would like to find out more about how the study was done and why that is:
"While almost 85% of new mothers in Canada start out breastfeeding their babies, the figures show only about 47% of American mothers will still be breastfeeding by the time they are discharged from hospital." |

| Pay Day Loans |
I try to avoid loans as much as possible but sometimes they are neccesary and it always important to do your homework. I got stuck with a really bad student loan where the interest just kept getting higher. We ended up getting a stafford loan for my husband to pay off my loan. It is a loan where no interest is added until 6 months after you graduate. And the interest is usually at a much lower rate than most student loans.
If you find yourself in need of cash quick you can get Payday cash Advance Loans It is a website that lets you easily apply for a loan online. No need to fax any information. |

| Cheap Airline Tickets |
I am sure that most everyone is interested in how to get airline tickets, vacations, hotels and car rentals cheaper.
This dicount air flight ticket website is not the best that I have been to. It just has links to other sites that allow you to search for flights. And the searches don't give you the results with the taxes (which are usually over $100) included like Expedia and Travelocity do. The prices are also not the cheapest. I searched Salt Lake to Seattle and it came up as $230 return plus taxes while I can get a flight from Salt Lake to Seattle from Southwest for $100 return.
On a postive note the site does have helpful travel tips.

| Antacids - Namebrand vs. Generic |
| As I have mentioned previously I get really bad heartburn when I am pregnant. None of the home remedies I have read about work for me so I use antacids. I have tried both the Tums brand and Equate which is the walmart generic brand. The generic brand is of course much cheaper but I find that it also works faster and more effective for me! A friend gave me a baggie of Tums brand when I forgot to bring my antacids with me and I was very grateful for that but it did not take away the symptoms as well as the Equate ones did. |

There are many different types of avatars you can make such celebrities, holiday dolls, guy dolls, princess, fairies and fantasy dolls.
Here are some examples:
Here is a winter Angel Doll
 Here is a Princess Doll
This doll looks kind of like an enchanted or mystical doll.
In addition to making dolls there are also colouring pages, screensavers and online games for girls. There are a variety of popular games such as solitaire, rubik, starwars, mastermind and cluster.
A free Doll Palace account will allow you access Get access to chat and forums, participation in contests, ability to create your own clubs and cliques, and to personalize your doll palace site. There is also a premimum membership option that gives you more features such as a pixel art editor, Add up to 40 Personal Friends (15 for standard members) and save up to 100 Personal Room designs in Room Maker (5 for standard members). | Missing Oklahoma Girl Found Unharmed |
I'm sure almost everyone has already heard about this but I just wanted to highlight this story because this little Oklahoma girl did exactly the right thing and was so brave. She escaped from her kidnappers car when he stopped for gas, ran into a convience store and identified herself. The best news of all about this story is that this girl had not been harmed in anyway, I'm sure she was pretty shook up, of course. The bad news is that the kidnapper has still not been. To read more about this story go to: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,244860,00.html
I hope parents take the time to tell their children about this story and talk about things that they can do if they are in a similar situation. |

| High End Furniture |
If you want to turn your home into one that looks like pictures from a Home and Garden magazine then you might want to check outGreat Priced Furniture who is actually a part of the TV show "Extreme Makeover". It is a website that sells high end furniture for cheaper then you would find elsewhere. The only problem is that it is hard to find out what the prices are since you need to request a quote for most products and then someone will contact you to let you know how much it will be. But on a positive note there are no interests and payments for 12 months so you will have time to save up.
Great Priced Furniture sells many different kinds of furniture including beds, baby furniture and kitchen furniture.
There furniture is really beautiful but I'm sure way above my budget. Somedady we'll buy some nice furniture that didn't come from a thrift store but we're still newly wed students. |

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have a hard time swallowing pills. As I am pregnant and nursing at the same time I know I should be taking my prenatal pills to make sure I'm getting the nutrients I need. | Ten Months Old! |
My little Sariah is ten months old today!
She is growing and learning everyday. One thing she is very good at is communicating. In addition to signing Milk and food she will also bang on her high chair tray while I'm making her food and say "yumyumyum..." as we always refer to her food as "yum-yums". Sariah also puts her arms when she's done eating and wants to be picked up. Now she keeps calling me da-da, she crawls up to me and says "hi dada". That's normal, most babies don't refer to their parents by the right name until they are over a year old.
Sariah loves to see things falling. She drops things and looks at them as they drop. She has also developed her object permanence. If I put something under a blanket she will pick the blanket up and look for the object. |

Since Biology and Chemistry grad students are paid to go to school usually around 20,000 a year and he will be in grad school for 4 or 5 years, I would like to look into buying a small affordable home.
Mortgage rates can vary from state to state. My husband may be accepted to more than one school so this site can be useful in helping us to decide on a school. We may end up anywhere from Utah to Washington or Virginia.

| I have a really hard time swallowing pills, actually I have never swallowed a pill. I don't know what it is but I just can't. I found pill crushers for a dollar at the dollar tree and they work great, crushing pills up into a fine powder. The same kind of pill crushers are found at drug stores for close to 10 dollars. In addition to adults who have a hard time swallowing pills these work great for babies and pets. My husband's brothers wife crushes up her baby's singulair pills and mixes it with her baby food. |

| Heartburn |
So far this pregnancy has been great. I only had nausea for a couple weeks and I haven't been as tired as when I was pregnant with Sariah but that's probably because I can sleep in if I want whereas I was in school with my last pregnancy and working at 7 am.
However there is one thing that is worse than my first pregnancy and that is the heartburn which actually began before I even took the pregnancy test! And I have never had heartburn not being pregnant.
Here is an interesting site that tells you about the Cause Of Heartburn. I had no idea that tomatoes and citrus foods can cause heartburn I did know about chocolate, and I am not giving that up! Even when I just have oatmeal and applesauce I get awful heartburn right after.
Another thing I learned in the pregnancy heartburn section is that the hormones can cause heartburn which may explain why I got it so early on. I always thought that the only cause was my uterus growing which can also be a factor.
Fortuately heartburn isn't something that we have to just deal with there are many forms of relief. Including medications and herbal remedies.

| Vinegar In Laundry |
For the last couple of weeks I have been putting 1/4 cup - 1/2 cup of vinegar in my laundry and it really does make a difference. I find that more stains come out and it is a great de-odorizer as well. This is pretty much a must do if you use cloth diapers unless you use a more expensive product like oxi-clean.
The next time you go to the grocery store you may want to pick up a jug of vinegar - it is usually a lot cheaper per ounce if you buy the biggest size. |

| Small Business Blog |
Small businesses are growing in popularity, many people want more flexibility, to be their own boss and especially stay at home mom's who want to make some extra money pursuing a hobby while being home for their children.
There is a small business blog that gives free business info and news that affects small businesses.
At this time many of us are getting ready to fill out our tax forms the Small Business Blog has advice for Small Business Tax Help. I can personally say that this will be very useful. At the beginning of 2005 I did not yet have my permanent resident card and so worked for a company as an independant contractor and for BYU-Idaho under the North America Free Trade act. Therefore according to the IRS I "had a small business". We had no idea what to do with the 1040 forms and ended up having to pay an accountant to do our taxes for us. Of course we also waited until the last minute to file our taxes so a lesson we learned is to do our taxes early so if we run into problems we will have more time to learn how to do it or find an accounting student to help us.

| Save Money - Make Your Own Cloth Diapers? |
Now that we have a washer and dryer we decided to start using cloth diapers for our baby to save money on diapers. I went to 3 different fabric stores and looked for fabric online and it would be a lot more expensive to buy fabric to make diapers than to buy the Gerber cloth diapers from Target. It was 16.50 for 12 diapers, they also had 12 birdseye cloth diapers for 10.50 but the 16.50 ones looked a lot better. And so far have worked very well. Haven't leaked at all, even overnight.
I was looking forward to making my own diapers as I enjoy sewing. I miss fabricland, the fabric store I went to when I lived in BC, now that fabric was a good deal! They are only in Western Canada. Now that I'm writing this I think I should have found a friend there with a fabricland membership to send me some fabric but then again shipping costs in Canada is very high. |

| Baby Cereal "Bites" |
I made these baby cereal cookies and I broke them up into little pieces so my baby couldn't choke on them. Make sure that your baby has had barley cereal or other wheat based cereal, if your baby was ok with this he or she should be ok with the flour. It is also a good idea to check with your pediatrician first. - 1 cup flour
- 1 cup dry infant plain or flavoured rice cereal
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil
- 1/8 - 1/4 cup cold water
- 1/4 cup baby juice
Directions:
- Preheat oven 425F
- Mix flour and cereal. Gradually stir in oil. Mix a little water and juice at a time until
dough begins to form a ball and pull away from the bowl. - Roll out to the thickness of a cracker on a floured surface. You may choose to cut the dough into small squares or break the cookie up once it is baked.
- Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet 10-12 min. or until lightly brown. Cool
completely.
Store in an airtight container.

| Oil Paintings |
One of the things that my husband and I enjoy doing is looking art. There is only one art gallery that I know of here in Rexburg, Idaho and that is at BYU-Idaho. It is nice to look at the work the students have done. While we were dating I was living Salt Lake City and there were a lot more places to go look at art there, for free as well. We even went to an art lecture at the Church History Museum. We were of cocurse the youngest people there.
My husband took an art history class so he introduced to me to thinking about the deeper meaning of art.
There are a lot of interesting art websites on the internet, one is Oil Paintings by Lori Twiggs. Lori Twiggs does beautiful work. One of my favorite paintings that she has done is titled "The Evergreens". I love trees and mountains, it is one of the things I miss most about British Columbia.
Lori Twigg's paintings include the everyday chores of pioneers and service people, plants, still life of fruits and vegetables and beautiful scenery, most likely inspired by her home town of Enumclaw, Washington.

| Folded Napkins |
I got this story in an e-mail from my mom and I loved it. It is quite long but definatly worth the read. I think one of the reasons I love this story so much is that the children and adults with downs syndrome that I have met and worked with have all been very special, sweet people.
I try not to be biased, but I had my doubts about hiring Stevie. His placement counselor assured me that he would be a good, reliable busboy. But I had never had a mentally handicapped employee and wasn't sure I wanted one. I wasn't sure how my customers would react to Stevie.
He was short, a little dumpy with the smooth facial features and thick-tongued speech of Downs Syndrome. I wasn't worried about most of my trucker customers because truckers don't generally care who buses tables as long as the meatloaf platter is good and the pies are homemade.
The four-wheeler drivers were the ones who concerned me; the mouthy college kids traveling to school; the yuppie snobs who secretly polish their silverware with their napkins for fear of catching some dreaded "truck stop germ" the pairs of white-shirted business men on expense accounts who think every truck stop waitress wants to be flirted with. I knew those people would be uncomfortable around Stevie so I closely watched him for the first few weeks.
I shouldn't have worried. After the first week, Stevie had my staff wrapped around his stubby little finger, and within a month my truck regulars had adopted him as their official truck stop mascot.
After that, I really didn't care what the rest of the customers thought of him. He was like a 21-year-old in blue jeans and Nikes, eager to laugh and eager to please, but fierce in his attention to his duties. Every salt and pepper shaker was exactly in its place, not a bread crumb or coffee spill was visible when Stevie got done with the table. Our only problem was persuading him to wait to clean a table until after the customers were finished. He would hover in the background, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, scanning the dining room until a table was empty. Then he would scurry to the empty table and carefully bus dishes and glasses onto his cart and meticulously wipe the table up with a practiced flourish of his rag.
If he thought a customer was watching, his brow w ould pucker with added concentration. He took pride in doing his job exactly right, and you had to love how hard he tried to please each and every person he met.
Over time, we learned that he lived with his mother, a widow who was disabled after repeated surgeries for cancer. They lived on their Social Security benefits in public housing two miles from the truck stop. Their social worker, who stopped to check on him every so often, admitted they had fallen between the cracks. Money was tight, and what I paid him was probably the difference between them being able to live together and Stevie being sent to a group home. That's why the restaurant was a gloomy place that morning last August, the first morning in three years that Stevie missed work.
He was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester getting a new valve or something put in his heart. His social worker said that people with Downs Syndrome often have heart problems at an early age so this wasn't unexpected, and there was a good chance he would come through the surgery in good shape and be back at work in a few months.
A ripple of excitement ran through the staff later that morning when word came that he was out of surgery, in recovery, and doing fine.
Frannie, the head waitress, let out a war hoop and did a little dance in the aisle when she heard the good news.
Belle Ringer, one of our regular trucker customers, stared at the sight of this 50-year-old grandmother of four doing a victory shimmy beside his table.
Frannie blushed, smoothed her apron and shot Belle Ringer a withering look.
He grinned. "OK, Frannie, what was that all about?" he asked.
"We just got word that Stevie is out of surgery and going to be okay."
"I was wondering where he was. I had a new joke to tell him. What was the surgery about?"
Frannie quickly told Belle Ringer and the other two drivers sitting at his booth about Stevie's surgery, then sighed: "Yeah, I'm glad he is going to be OK," she said. "But I don't know how he and his Mom are going to handle all the bills. From what I he ar, they're barely getting by as it is." Belle Ringer nodded thoughtfully, and Frannie hurried off to wait on the rest of her tables. Since I hadn't had time to round up a busboy to replace Stevie and really didn't want to replace him, the girls were busing their own tables that day until we decided what to do.
After the morning rush, Frannie walked into my office. She had a couple of paper napkins in her hand and a funny look on her face.
"What's up?" I asked.
"I didn't get that table where Belle Ringer and his friends were sitting cleared off after they left, and Pony Pete and Tony Tipper were sitting there when I got back to clean it off," she said. "This was folded and tucked under a coffee cup."
She handed the napkin to me, and three $20 bills fell onto my desk when I opened it. On the outside, in big, bold letters, was printed "Something For Stevie".
"Pony Pete asked me what that was all about," she said, "so I told him about Stevie and his Mom and everything, and Pete looked at Tony and Tony looked at Pete, and they ended up giving me this." She handed me another paper napkin that had "Something For Stevie" scrawled on its outside. Two $50 bills were tucked within its folds. Frannie looked at me with wet, shiny eyes, shook her head and said simply: "truckers."
That was three months ago. Today is Thanksgivi ng, the first day Stevie is supposed to be back to work.
His placement worker said he's been counting the days until the doctor said he could work, and it didn't matter at all that it was a holiday. He called 10 times in the past week, making sure we knew he was coming, fearful that we had forgotten him or that his job was in jeopardy. I arranged to have his mother bring him to work. I then met them in the parking lot and invited them both to celebrate his day back.
Stevie was thinner and paler, but couldn't stop grinning as he pushed through the doors and headed for the back room where his apron and busing cart were waiting.
"Hold up there, Stevie, not so fast," I said. I took him and his mother by their arms. "Work can wait for a minute. To celebrate you coming back, breakfast for you and your mother is on me!" I led them toward a large corner booth at the rear of the room.
I could feel and hear the rest of the staff following behind as we marched through the dining room. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw booth after booth of grinning truckers empty and join the procession. We stopped in front of the big table. Its surface was covered with coffee cups, saucers and dinner plates, all sitting slightly crooked on dozens of folded paper napkins. "First thing you have to do, Stevie, is clean up this mess," I said. I tried to sound stern.
Stevie looked at me, and then at his mother, then pulled out one of the napkins. It had "Something for Stevie" printed on the outside. As he picked it up, two $10 bills fell onto the table.
Stevie stared at the money, then at all the napkins peeking from beneath the tableware, each with his name printed or scrawled on it. I turned to his mother. "There's more than $10,000 in cash and checks on that table, all from truckers and trucking companies that heard about your problems. "Happy Thanksgiving,".
Well, it got real noisy about that time, with everybody hollering and shouting, and there were a few tears, as well.
But you know what's funny? While everybody else was busy shaking hands and hugging each other, Stevie, with a big, big smile on his face, was busy clearing all the cups and dishes from the table.
Best worker I ever hired.

| Clear Debts |
Debt from credit cards has become a big problem in many countries. What I didn't know before looking at this site, "The Thrifty Scot" was how many different credit cards there are that can help you save money and also give you rewards and cash back. My credit card only offers cash back rewards from certain stores, the ones I don't shop at. This site lists credit cards that reward you for each dollar or pound that you spend.
In addition to credit cards this site addresses many more financial needs including information on secured loans , mortgages, current accounts, and home insurance.
It looks like this is a Scottish based site which is pretty neat since my mom is from Scotland and I still have a lot of family there.

| Sign Language Products |
Since my 9 month old baby was 4 months I have been trying to teach her some sign language because I from studying this I have learned that teaching a hearing baby sign language will help them to communicate with you faster. The first sign I did with her was milk. I would do this sign every time before I nursed her, then at 6 months she began to do the sign for milk when she was hungry.
She has recently also started doing the sign for food or "yum yum's" when she wants to eat solids. I am currently trying to teach her "thank you" and "please". I would love to teach her more but I need to learn my self. I did learn some basic signs last year when I worked with a little boy with down syndrome in my preschool class. People with down syndrome have wide tongues so it often takes longer for them to learn how to speak. He was a joy to work with and the other children also learned a little sign language so they could communicate with him.
To help you learn sign language with your children you can Get Children's Sign Language Products here. They have DVD's, videos, flash cards and more available. The company has been in business for 2 years. While the products are cheaper than most on the market it is still out of my price range for now. We recently got a TV so I will go to the library tomorrow and see if any of these videos or DVD's are available there.

| Evenflo Discovery Car Seat |
I ran into a friend of mine at Walmart the other day and she mentioned that she was watching the news and there was a report about a car seat safety test. She said that the car seat she has - the Evenflo Discovery Car Seat performed the worst. At only 35 miles per hour the car seat flew off its base 30 yards away.
My friend has e-mailed the company inquiring if they are going to recall the seats. I can't believe they didn't recall these seats after learning about this test! On their site they state:
Safety campaigns call the consumer's attention to products that need to be repaired, modified or replaced after the manufacturing process. Many times, a simple replacement part may be necessary to improve performance of the product.
It's important to us that you have the latest news about products or accessories, so we provide a list of current and past safety campaigns for Evenflo products.
I would encourage everyone to find out information about their carseat and also encourage companies of those car seats that fail these tests to recall their car seats. |

| Family Network |
One of my hobbies is to do family history, I like to learn about my ancestors and family history work is also of great importance in my religion.
ZOOOF, The Family Network allows users to build an interactive flash family tree that can connect them with their family members both past and present. You can also invite other family members who can help you grow your family tree with their information.
This looks like a lot of fun, almost like a game. There are 12 family levels and the more levels you complete by having a certain number of family members and countries the more tools you will get. I could deffinatly do well at this as I already have thousands of family members in my database and dozens of countries.
Users can also share family stories and pictures. This site is not yet open to everyone as it is still in beta. On February 14th the site will be open to everyone for free! I will definatly be joining and inviting my family!
If you would like to joing before then you e-mail Zooof at invite@zooof.com. Give them your name, e-mail, country and gender. You will recieve a personal invitation link.

| Wacky Warnings |
The wacky warnings contest for the best warning labels is over. The winning lable is found on a baby stroller and states: “Remove child before folding".
Some of my favorites are:
- "A popular scooter for children warns: "This product moves when used."
- "A household iron warns users: “Never iron clothes while they are being worn”
- "The label on a bottle of drain cleaner warns: “If you do not understand, or cannot read, all directions, cautions and warnings, do not use this product.”
- "A warning on a pair of shin guards manufactured for bicyclists says: “Shin pads cannot protect any part of the body they do not cover.”
- "A dishwasher carries this warning: “Do not allow children to play in the dishwasher.”

| California Travel |
One of the perks of my Dad being a general manager was that sometimes when he went on business trips he would take the whole family with him. One of these times we went to California. His meeting was in Palm Springs but we went a little early and went to Anaheim to go to Disney Land. My dad likes to find good deals on hotels but he also feels that location is important but he did find a great deal on a hotel that was a short walk away from Disney Land. Later on we went to Palm Springs which is beautiful, I would love to visit there again.
Here is a website for Hotel Deals in California. There are also special deals listed for senior citizens, travel packages, and for military and government officals.

| Cold Sores During Pregnancy |
When I was pregnant with my first baby I got cold sores. It was embarrasing and painful but I wasn't really sure what was safe to do with being pregnant. I went for a routine prenatal check up and the doctor wrote me out a prescription and said that this cold sore ointment was safe for pregnancy.
I went to walmart to go get the prescription but decided to look at the over the counter ointments and noticed that they were a lot cheaper and had the same active ingredients as the prescription ointment. I bought the cheapest one which was Blistex for $1.70 and it worked really well. It also has an external analgesic that numbs the cold sore so you can't feel any pain.
Now with this pregnancy I got another cold sore a couple days ago. I got this ointment again, I apply it about 4 times a day and now the cold sore is almost gone. |

| Hats For New Borns |
If you know how to crochet or knit and would like to do some service then you can make hats for newborns and help save their lives. "Four million newborns die each year within the first month of life — half within the first 24 hours of life." This number could be lowered with keeping babies heads warm. This would be a fun thing to do with a group of people!
Click here to download the kit.
They ask that you also write a letter to President Bush asking to give more aid to these countries to provide more education to mothers and infant care. I personally feel that it is more up to the people and charity organizations to help than governments. |

| Boise State |
On New Years Day my husband watched a few football games with his dad and brothers. The last game they watched was Boise State and Oklahoma University. My husband was really into wanting Boise State to win and they did win. I watched some of it and not into football at all but I would have to say that it was a pretty exciting game. My husband did a cancer research internship at Boise State this past summer semester so we lived there for four months. I guess this made him feel a connection to Boise State, the research internship also played a big part in him deciding to go to grad school instead of dental school. It took me a bit to warm up to the idea of grad school because I was excited about my husband becoming a dentist but now I think grad school will be great for him.
The hardest part about moving to Boise was finding an apartment in such a short amount of time while we were both in school and a few weeks after having a baby. We had a lot of requirements that made finding an apartment harder such as it needed to be close to Boise State, under $500 a month and we needed a 4 month lease. Most apartments wont do less than 6 months. With the help of real estate websites we found an apartment just a week before moving to Boise.
Boise is a great place to live with beatiful parks and afordable things to do. The zoo is only $2 on tuesdays! If you are interested in moving to Boise check out these Boise homes for sale |

| My New Glasses |
I have gotten my new glasses from www.eyebuydirect.com I had requested that they be sent to my husbands parents address so I could get them during my Christmas vacation but they ended up sending them to my address. At least I got them and I can see better.
I did a lot of searching around to find the best price on glasses and this was the best I could find. I got flexlite frames (so my baby can't bend them)with high index, anti-reflective lenses for $70.
Eye Buy Direct's prescription glasses start at 15.95 but if you have a high prescription you will need to get high index lenses which are $40. They don't tell you this until you get to the check out.

| Back From Vacation |
We got back from our Christmas vacation to Tennessee/Alabama yesterday at 3:30 am.
It was a very enjoyable vacation, I got to see some of my husbands family that I hadn't seen since we got married including his grandfather who married us! I also got to meet a lot of new people. I met 4 of the 5 nices and nephews for the first time. Sariah had so much fun with them, she kept poking the babies eyes so we had to watch her carefully.
We will probably be spending this next Christmas with my family in British Columbia but I hope to go back to the south soon. |
